On the occasion of one year monitoring of the Law on free access to information of public character, on November 26, 2007, Foundation Open Society Institute Macedonia (FOSIM) organized round table titled “One year later”.
The round table was opened by the Executive Director of the foundation Mr. Vladimir Milchin, while Mr. Nikola Tupancheski, member of the FOSIM’s Executive Board promoted the report “Wall of Silence”. The report contains the results from the one year research (01.09.06-01.09.07) of the implementation of the Law on free access to information of public character in RM. Neda Korunovska and Danche Danilovska from FOSIM presented the key-findings of the research and the recommendations contained in the report after which discussion on the future steps for overcoming the identified problems followed.
The results from the research show that 40% of the requests for information, submitted in the public institutions during the research, faced “silence of the administration” i.e. did not get any reply! After submitting complaint because of the “silence of the administration”, 65% of the public administration instantly sent reply which shows that previously they had disregarding and indifferent attitude towards the submitted requests of the citizens.
